Vanessa Van Meerhaeghe

Β°1974, Ronse
Lives and works in Ronse, Belgium.

Vanessa Van Meerhaeghe is a Belgian visual artist whose work bridges observation, storytelling, and contemporary painting. She began her career in fashion design and spent over two decades in the industry before turning to painting as a more personal form of expression.

Her background in fashion continues to shape her approach to composition, color, and texture, while her paintings explore themes of femininity, identity, and the quiet humor found in everyday life. With bold palettes, layered patterns, and a balance between irony and elegance, she creates scenes that question social habits and ideals while maintaining a sense of playfulness and empathy.

Each work begins with an observation β€” a gesture, a routine, a subtle contradiction β€” and unfolds into a visual story about how we see and present ourselves. Beyond her studio, Van Meerhaeghe draws inspiration from nature, travel, and culture, but most of all from women β€” in their strength, imperfections, and the small performances that make daily life both absurd and beautiful.
