Noemi Iglesias Barrios
°1987, Spain.
Lived and worked in Greece, England, Finland, Italy, Hungary, China and Korea.
The subtleties of flora are brought together in the work of Noemi Iglesias Barrios (b. 1987, Asturias, Spain). Her delicate works in pigmented porcelain replicate floral arrangements with a complex floral range, referring to the usual delicacy and beauty linked to the hegemonic notion of femininity. Critically, the artist investigates how emotional and collective obsolete conventions and consumption strategies guide experiences.
Curriculum vitae:
Noemi Iglesias Barrios (b. 1987, Asturias, Spain) is a multidisciplinary artist and researcher working with porcelain and long-durational performative formats. Her practice concerns visual arts' role at the intersections of experimental disciplines such as sculpture and digital technologies, using traditional ceramics techniques to generate innovative and provocative concepts within the contemporary art scene. Her aesthetically attractive work focuses on producing porcelain and new media installations to report how emotional experiences, such as falling in love, are influenced by consumerist strategies. With a PhD in Sculpture and Ceramics at Universidade Belas Artes of Lisbon, Portugal, the artist recently held solo shows at the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum, Spain (2024); Museum of Fine Arts in Asturias, Spain (2024); Verduyn Gallery, Belgium (2024); among group shows at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts, Norway (2021); Taipei Museum of Contemporary Art, Taiwan (2017), and Oviedo Archeological Museum, Spain (2017).
