Raúl Cordero
°1971, La Habana, Cuba.
Lives and works Mexico City, Mexico.
Raúl Cordero is best known for his blurred paintings of representational motifs—think of trees, portraits, or landscapes—accompanied by conceptual elements, most often in the forms of geometrical shapes or text, integrated into the picture plane. Cordero examines the subtle distinction between looking and reading. For instance, when do we start to read a painting instead of looking at it? As a result, what first was a deceivingly simple subject shifted into a multi-layered picture due to Cordero’s fundamentally post-conceptual approach, marked by the introspective character of painting.
