Emilio Lopez-Menchero

°1960, Mol, Belgium.
Residing and working in Brussels, Belgium.

Emilio Lopez-Menchero is a Spanish-Belgian artist best known for his thought-provoking multi-disciplinary practice. The La Cambre graduate delves into the complex identity of the artist and its place in society, exemplified by his take on self-portraiture and icons such as Frida Kahlo and James Ensor. Lopez-Menchero challenges conventional narratives and explores the myths associated with artistic practice in general, often incorporating existing icons in the arts and beyond. By doing so, Emilio Lopez-Menchero invites the viewer to reevaluate societal constructs and critically engage with the artist’s role in shaping culture and perception.
